Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Taylor was born in Springfield, Illinois. Biography: Edward Robeson Taylor was a lawyer and a poet in California. After the resignation of San Francisco mayor, Charles Boxton, in 1907 Taylor was appointed mayor. At 68 years old, he was the oldest mayor sworn into office in San Francisco. He served in that capacity until 1910. He died in San Francisco on July 5, 1923 and his remains are housed at the San Francisco Columbarium. The political economist Henry George credits Taylor for influencing his work on ''Progress and Poverty.''
