Connection to Illinois: Strellis was born in Carbondale. She went to a small rural home preschool near Crab Orchard Lake then attended K-1 in Carterville. She attended Unity Point in Makanda for 6th grade and went to jr. high and high school in Belleville. When Strellis remarried, she moved to Waterloo. She now divides her time between Waterloo and Chicago. She belongs to three writing groups: Living Stone Writers in Red Bud, Heartland Women's Writers Guild in Waterloo, and an over 55 creative writing group at the Chicago Cultural Center. Some of her poetry is inspired by Illinois influences. My book, It's All Good Fur!, includes the stories of seven Illinois dogs and their problems.

Biography: Kim Strellis is married. She has a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from SIUE in Edwardsville, Illinois. She received the Illinois Governor Senior Service Award for helping the Monroe County, Illinois EMA (Emergency Management Agency) develop their CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program and for creating the children's program, Sam Ready I Am, and distributing disaster backpacks to over 1,500 children in Illinois. Currently a member of the Waterloo, Illinois Lions and a past Lion of the Year, she is also a member of the Monroe County, Illinois Home & Community Education. Formerly, Strellis has been a flight attendant for TWA and American Airlines. She was also an assistant manager for Sunburst in Belleville, Illinois. She volunteered as the Citizen Disaster Preparedness Coordinator in Monroe County, Illinois and as the Chairperson of Operation Liftoff, a wish granting organization. Strellis also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
