Connection to Illinois: Vanessa was born and raised in Chicago and has lived there all her life. She attained her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Olive-Harvey College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. She graduated from Chicago State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Concentration in Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions (AODA), in December 2015. Vanessa aspires to become an Addiction Counselor.

Biography: Vanessa King, a native Chicagoan, born the third child of five children to Moses and Rosie Mae King on December 8th. She is the mother of 3 daughters (DeLora, Tanesha and Tamika) and one son, Derek. She is the happy grandmother of five granddaughters (Shatarra, Kennedi, Delilah, Denesha and Jaloni) and one grandson, Leovany. Vanessa's mother passed on to Glory in March, 1976, and it was then that Vanessa established a closer walk with the Lord. Unmarried, but not single, Vanessa's companion and confidant is the Holy Spirit. It is very apparent to her, that, even in the absence of her mother she is not alone. Blessed with a healthy mind, body and spirit, Vanessa realized that she was not without the support of her Heavenly Father. It was at the age of twenty-three that Vanessa came into the real power of the Holy Spirit in her life and submitted her effort to the will of God. Although inclusive, and yet, specifically where her book, 'His Gift to Me: Poetic Humanities' is concerned, with absolutely no reservation in her mind or apprehension to confess that this is God's will for her - He gets all the glory, honor and praise. And as she accepts this wholeheartedly, she wishes to express to all, that, 'What God has done for me, He will do the same for you,' but you have to do what I have done, and that is...
