Martin Marcus

Connection to Illinois: Marcus was educated at Chicago Public Schools. He has a B. A. from Northwestern University. His first job was at WBBM where he wrote 'The Gold Coast Show'. Over the course of thirty years, he worked as a copywriter and creative director in Chicago advertising agencies including Leo Burnett, Needham Harper and Steers and McCann Erickson.

Biography: Marcus wrote documentaries about music for CBS radio network and for syndication. His essays have been published in ''Chicago Tribune Magazine'', ''Gent'', ''Status'' and ''Minneapolis/St.Paul Magazine''. Marcus has taught continuing education writing workshops at New Trier and copywriting at Columbia College Chicago. In 1968, he wrote the international best selling book, ''Yiddish for Yankees or Funny, You Don't Look Gentile''. In 1971, Doubleday & Co. published his book ''The Power of Yiddish Thinking''.
