Shirley Streshinsky

Connection to Illinois: Streshinsky was born and raised in Alton, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1956 with a degree in Journalism.

Biography: Streshinsky has lived in Northern California, first in San Francisco in 1959, then across the Bay in Kensington in Berkeley Hills. She was married to photojournalist Ted Streshinsky and workded with im as a team on many magazine articles, until his death in 2003. She also traveled widely as a travel journalist. Shirley recently completed what she calls her 'Midwestern' novel, titled ''Walking to England''. She is currently working on a biography of three women who were central to the life ot J. Robert Oppenheimer of atomic bomb fame.
