Connection to Illinois: I grew up near Altona, Illinois and lived in Galesburg and Edwardsville while attending college and graduate school. I now work in Toulon, Illinois and reside in Princeton, Illinois. The book contains photos all taken in Illinois prairies, and the story is set in a Midwestern prairie.

Biography: I grew up on a farm near Altona, Illinois. I graduated from Carl Sandburg College and then transferred to Knox College in Galesburg, where I majored in Biology. I obtained my Master of Science degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where I majored in Biology. While in graduate school I worked for the Illinois Natural History, where I conducted research on raccoons. I began taking prairie plant photos during the research project. I began as the Resource Conservationist at the Stark County Soil and Water Conservation District in 1994 and currently work there.
