Budig is the distinguished professor and senior presidential advisor of the College Board in New York City. As the head of three major state universities, Illinois State University, West Virginia University, and the University of Kansas, he was responsible for the educational programs of 520,000 students. Budig served as president of Major League Baseball's American League (1994-2000) and oversaw a period of historic growth in attendance and physical facilities. He is now co-owner of the Charleston RiverDogs, a minor-league affiliate of the New York Yankees who play in the South Atlantic League.Over the course of his varied career, Gene A. Budig has also served as a professor, a major general in the Air National Guard and a newspaper man. One can safely assume that Budig has met his share of interesting and inspiring people.
