Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I attended college at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and returned to Chicago after college to work at Kraft Foods and eventually start my own marketing firm. Biography: Lauren Young is the CEO and Founder of Freshly Baked Communications, LLC (FBC), a brand marketing strategy + creative writing firm with two locations in the Chicagoland area. After interning at the age of 19 at the headquarters of Kraft Foods, Lauren was offered a full-time position in the Consumer Marketing and Insights department. She worked on the brand messaging and marketing strategy for brands such as Oreo, Oscar Mayer, DiGiorno, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, Post Cereal and LifeSavers. After three promotions in four years, she was torn between the dynamics of the fast-paced corporate world and her passion for writing.Eventually, writing won, and Lauren decided to incorporate her valuable creative and business perspective gained from her professional career at Kraft into her new venture. In 2008, she launched her boutique firm to develop memorable brands for new corporations and rebrand the image of existing businesses looking to reach unique niche markets. Lauren and her staff of eleven content marketers incorporate precise business strategy (with a little personality) to offer a non-traditional approach to traditional marketing methods.Lauren is a recent recipient of the Daily Herald Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for an “Early Stage” business and she placed in the top 3% in the Google Online Marketing Challenge for search engine ad creation. Lauren also devotes her time and expertise to her local community as a mentor and philanthropist. She currently serves on the Community Leadership Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County in Illinois as the Marketing Communications chairperson, the Executive Board of the Lakeside Legacy Foundation to encourage visual and performing arts programs in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago and the Council of 100 for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.
