Connection to Illinois: Stanford was born and raised in southern Illinois. She currently resides in Salem.

Biography: Nancy L. Stanford was born and raised in southern Illinois. She is a mother and grandmother, but always and forever, a writer. Nancy started writing before she knew how to write. She would tell her mother she needed to write a story, so Mom would pick up a pen and paper and write down what was dictated-normally a sentence or two. But Nancy never stopped writing. Through the years, she would write on breaks from her job, while waiting at the doctor's office, while waiting for her children at school and any other time she had 2 or 3 minutes to spare. Letters to Sarah is Nancy's first published book and the research alone has taken many years. Patience has never been a strong suit, so to stick with this book for so long was more a matter of the heart than anything else. It helped Nancy to teach her children and grandchildren the rewards of perseverance. So, book one is checked off the bucket list. Book two, then three and so on, come next. Then the bucket list includes a trip to Scotland to visit her ancestral home and maybe a cozy seaside cottage on the Atlantic coast.
