Biography: Emily Stipes Watts is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a member of the American Institute of Archaeology, Association of Literature Scholars Critics, Authors Guild, Illinois History Society, The Philadelphia Society, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She was a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellow 1973 - 1974.
