Connection to Illinois: Murray lived and worked in Chicago from 1971 until his death in 2008.

Biography: G E Murray had been a poetry critic for the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Magazine. He was chair of Pen Midwest and a national board member of Pen America Center. Murray wrote eight collections of poetry, his last titled 'Arts of a Cold Sun' and published by the University of Illinois Press in 2003. He also co-edited, with Illinois Poet Laureate Kevin Stein, 'Illinois Voices: An Anthology of Twentieth-Century Poetry.' Mr. Murray's poetry appeared in nearly 100 literary magazines and were included in more than a dozen anthologies.
