Connection to Illinois: Wayne Miller taught history in the Peoria area for 35 years. He now substitute teaches as well as writes.

Biography: Wayne Miller is a builder of pirate ships, and treasure chests, and a writer of stories. Having retired from 35 years as a sixth grade History teacher, he is now substitute teaching 2nd through 5th grade , where he recognized the students’ love of hearing a good adventure story. He started constructing treasure chests and pirate ships to use as props in his oral stories. This love of History and storytelling prompted him to publish Black Dog-The Reluctant Pirate.
