Alexander Karanikas

Connection to Illinois: Dr. Karanikas was a Professor of English at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was a graduate of Harvard and Northwestern.

Biography: In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Karanikas was active in the Greek-American community. He served on the editorial committee of the Greek Star newspaper; was a board member of the United Hellenic-American Congress; co-chairman of the National Bicentennial Symposium, 'The Greek Experience in America'; served as National Secretary for the American Council for a Democratic Greece (1947); was a District Officer of the American Hellenic Education and Progressive Association; and a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
