Kestner Wallace

Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Mr. Wallace was born in Mountain Township of Saline County, in Southern Illinois. He continues to live on land that has been owned by the Wallace family for five generations. Biography: Kestner Wallace was an educator for 41 years before retiring in 1987. He has also been a regular contributor to ''Springhouse'' magazine for nearly 30 years, writing his memoirs as a boy growing up on a farm during the Great Depression, as a one-room schoolteacher and principal, as a sailor during World War II, and as a keen observer of life. The author's incredible memory of bygone times and of the people who have been important to him as friends, mentors, and neighbors lend a richness of detail in these stories that recall a different era in America's history.
