Died: May 17, 1996 in Girard, Illinois Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Ethel lived her whole life in Illinois. Biography: Ethel was both an author and librarian. Writing her own stories for her own children turned into writing stories for editors Carolyn Sherwin Bailey and Lillian Davidson. Stories and articles for the Sunday school market were also sold. This was during the depression. Her first juvenile book had just been accepted by Lothrop, Lee and Shepherd when Pearl Harbor changed the face of the world. That book went the way of all cancelled plans. All during the war she studied writing courses. She lost her son in WWII
