Biography: Elizabeth Tallent is a novelist and short story contributor to ''Esquire'', ''Harper's'', and the ''New Yorker''. Her works have been anthologized in ''The Best American Short Stories of 1981'', ''Prize Stories 1984'', ''The O. Henry Awards'', 1984, ''The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses'', and ''Graywolf Annual''. Tallent was born in Washington, D.C. Her parents are Hugh Tallent, a chemist and Joy Redfeild Tallent, a speech therapist. The family moved frequently throughout the Midwest. Elizabeth earned her B.A. in anthropology at Illinois State University in 1975. In 1994, she was appointed director of Stanford University's Creative Writing Program. She currently resides in California.
