She was born in Rochester, lived in Springfield from 1892 - 1918, and then lived most of her life in Decatur. Biography: Madeline Babcock Smith published short stories, essays, and poetry in a number of newspapers and popular magazines. Her book is semi-biographical - an account of life in a small Illinois town. The scenes were from Rochester, Illinois, where Mrs. Smith was born.
