Wendy Parris

Born:
Connection to Illinois: Parris studied theater at Northwestern University before switching majors to radio/television/film. After graduation, she acted in small Chicago storefront theaters, improvised with comedy troupes, and freelanced in public relations (back then my name was Wendy Langlas). She got married, had two kids, and adored reading books aloud to them. Once her children were in middle school, she decided to concentrate on her childhood love of mysteries and scary stories—and write stories for kids. Today Wendy lives in Illinois in an old house built more than a hundred years ago. She hasn't actually SEEN a ghost...but she's still looking.

Biography: Wendy Parris grew up loving mysteries and ghost stories. She writes spooky middle-grade novels for kids. She lives in Illinois with her family in a creaky old house that is probably not haunted. FIELD OF SCREAMS is her debut novel. Her second book STAGE FRIGHT was just published by Delacorte Press/Random House Children's Books in fall 2024.

But when she tracks a ghostly presence to an abandoned farmhouse, she starts to think the summer won’t be a total lost cause! The trouble is no one believes her. Then Rebecca finds a note stashed in a comic belonging to her late father—a note that proves the same spirit haunted him when he was twelve. Suddenly she feels a connection to the dad she pretends not to miss, and she is determined to uncover the story behind the haunting. But the more Rebecca discovers, the scarier the ghost becomes.
