The Stars of Little Egypt is the story of the Stelle Family of Southern Illinois. The biographical account centers on the life of John Stelle, Governor of Illinois in 1940, World War I veteran, National Commander of the American Legion in 1946, and most famously known as the "Father of the G.I. Bill". While the book focuses primarily on John Stelle's military, political and entrepreneurial career, it traces the Stelle family origins all the way back to seventeenth century France, and then follows the Stelle ancestors to North America where they put down roots in Southern Illinois in the early nineteenth century. The Stars of Little Egypt tells the story of the entire Stelle Family and how they interacted with the family patriarch, John Stelle.
