Gary D Schmidt
Born: 1957 in Hicksville, New York
Connection to Illinois: Schmidt received his MS and PHD from UIUC in English (PhD in medieval Literature in 1985.). Biography: Gary D. Schmidt is the author of the Newbery Honor and Printz Honor book Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy. He currently resides in Alto, Michigan, where he is a professor of English at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
