Witzke Slot divides her time between Chicago and London. She has taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Biographical and Professional Information
Andrea Witzke Slot earned her PhD and M.A. Studies in Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas. She also received a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from the University of Hertfordshire, U.K. and a B.A. in English Literature, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The author of the poetry collection To Find a New Beauty, her work has been published widely, including in Bellevue Literary Review, The Adirondack Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Poetry East, Measure, Mezzo Cammin, Southeast Review, Mid-American Review, Nimrod, SRPR, Crab Orchard Review, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Her essays on the poetry of Julia Alvarez and Harryette Mullen have been included in academic books published by SUNY Press (2013) and Palgrave Macmillan (2014).
Previously, an associate editor at Rhino Poetry as well as the book review editor for Fifth Wednesday, Witzke Slot has also been a judge in the Illinois Emerging Writers Competition offered by the Illinois Center for the Book.
After teaching for many years (primary level in the UK and college/university level in the U.S. after receiving her PhD), Andrea now writes full time.
