Connection to Illinois: Woods was born and has lived his entire life (minus a few years in Chatham) in Springfield. He attended Ursuline Academy before obtaining his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois Springfield in 1998. He later (in 2013) earned his master's degree in communication, also from UIS.

Biography: Eric Woods has been a freelance writer in Springfield since 2005. He has covered numerous businesses over the years for the Springfield Business Journal. In 2009, he wrote a series of well-received pieces on Lincoln's Springfield business life to coincide with the Lincoln bicentennial. In 2017, he also began writing for Springfield's Own (SO) Magazine where he covered a diverse a number of local figures and programs.

In 2018, Woods published his first novel, PUMMELED. He has also written 10 unpublished stage plays, two of which have been performed on stage. He is also currently working on his second novel.
