Born: in Chicago, Illinois
Pen Name: None

Connection to Illinois: Byrne is a life-long Chicagoan.

Biography: Dennis Byrne is a Chicago journalist, freelance writer and editor. At the age of 70, he published his first book, the historical novel, 'Madness: The War of 1812.' He learned his craft at the 'writer's newspaper,' the Chicago Daily News where he variously served as general assignment reporter, urban affairs writer and assistant financial editor. Next came the Chicago Sun-Times, where he, at one time or another, was a columnist, editorial board member, transportation reporter, science and technology writer and special projects reporter. After he started freelancing, he continued writing his column for the Chicago Tribune. Not many journalists have had the honor of working at all three major dailies, but he is glad to be accounted among such greats as columnist Mike Royko.
