Velma Hildegarde Ford Morrison was a Drake University graduate. She taught school, married and ran a dairy farm with her husband of 60 years. When she couldn't find books she felt were suitable for children, she started authoring books under her maiden name: Hildegarde Ford.She collaborated on more than 15 books with illustrator Mary Win.
