Leonid Osseny

Connection to Illinois: In 1991 Leonid moved to Chicago with his family and now resides and works in Evanston, Illinois.

Biography: Leonid began his formal study of art at the Ural College of Applied Arts in 1963 and later at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute in Minsk in 1972. He was fortunate because he started in art during Khrushchev’s “Thaw” which allowed for more artistic freedoms and a brief lifting of the stylistic strictures imposed on all officially taught art.In Chicago he continues to work as an architect, designer and also continues to paint. A major source of inspiration for him is the architecture of Chicago. He has completed numerous paintings and drawings of the city at different times and in different styles; and has also composed several “visual” poems dedicated to the city.
