Illinois Connection

I have lived, studied, and worked in Illinois ever since I immigrated here from Poland in 1988.

Biographical and Professional Information

My development as a poet has been marked by my transition from Polish to English. I was born in Poland (where I studied literature). In December 1988, I immigrated to the US, together with my seven-year-old son. While learning English, I wrote articles for Polish periodicals in Chicago. In 2006 I completed my doctoral thesis at the University of Illinois in Chicago. While pursuing my studies and raising my son, I taught language and literature at UIC, the University of Chicago, and Indiana University. In 1997, already in the US, I published my first collection of poetry, followed by another in 1999 (both in Polish). During the last three years I established myself as an English-language poet, publishing numerous poems in American periodicals. Forthcoming is “Inclusions”, my first collection of originally English-language poems (published by Cervena Barva Press). I am currently searching for a publisher for my fourth book of poetry (the second one in English).
