Illinois ConnectionJams Lowry was born in 1939 to postal workers Camille and William Lowry. He graduated from Francis Parker school in Chicago and Grinell College in Iowa, then served with the Peace Corps in Tanzania and Puerto Rico before earning a Masters Degree. He is currently an adjunct faculty member of Northwester University's Kellogg School of Management.
