Liz Chilsen

Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: Liz Chilsen was born and raised in Wausau Wisconsin; a medium-sized town in the center of the state, which is usually referred to as 'up north'. She has resided in Chicago and environs since the mid-1990's where she works as an educator and photographer. She maintains a blog called 'Neighborland' on Chicago Now, where she publishes photographs and essays about architecture place and people in the City of Chicago and its neighborlands. Biography: Liz Chilsen is a Chicago-based photographer and educator. She specializes in place, architecture and landscape focusing on the design, use and experience of the built environment. Among her key concerns are the exploration of the role of the individual within a broad social, political and historical sweep, and the interactions between place and people. Liz has received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, residencies from the Ragdale Foundation, an Educational Media Award, and the Intercom award at the Chicago International Film Festival. She received her undergraduate Degree at the University of Wisconsin and her MFA degree from Columbia College Chicago. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Ext. in Madison, Dominican University in River Forest and at Columbia College Chicago.
