William is an army veteran and had a career with the U.S. Postal Service. He has one previously published book, Wilson and Jernigan, published in 1993. He spent twenty years as the editor of his local union newsletter and is a contributor to ''The Veteran'', newspaper of Vietnam veterans against the war. He is now retired and lives in Chicago.
