Linda Mitchell grew up in Illinois. Her youth in Lake County was spent in solitude and immersion in the natural world, at a time when the summer weeds were alight with millions of fireflies and it took tens of thousands of migrating birds long minutes to fly over her house each day in autumn. All of her adult life she has lived in Chicago.

During the early 70's she wrote articles for the underground press. As a member of the Womankind collective she helped publish the first women's newspaper in Chicago. She was also a member/manager of "The Chicago Women's Liberation Rock Band" collective.

After she learned metalsmithing, she wrote a poem about it and began to realize her creative dreams as a writer and musician. She has been best known around Chicago as a musician and singer, performing jazz and blues with her newest group, "Out of the Blue." She gives a multimedia lecture/performance on the theme of peace in music. This is her first collection to be published.
