Pen Name: None Connection to Illinois: *Professor Ryan teaches at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Biography: Ryan grew up in the city of Bath, England, and received his bachelor’s degree in American Studies at the University of Reading. He earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he later served as a lecturer in writing and humanities. He has also taught literature and film courses in the American Studies program at King’s College in London. Professor Ryan joined the faculty at NIU in 2007 and is an Assistant Professor of 20th Century American Literature, African American Literature and Southern Studies.
