Rodd is the author of Capital Murder, a political mystery/thriller set in Springfield - the Capitol City of Illinois. Whelpley dedicated his book to the late David Everson, who wrote a number of political murder mysteries involveing Illinois government and politics prior to his death in 1999.

Rodd is currently the Publications Director and Editor for Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine.
