Hamilton is is a poet, novelist, teacher, artist-in-residence and Reiki Master whose work focuses on recovering the lost voices of the Middle Passage through cellular memory.

Her work has been published in numerous anthologies and journals, including Beyond the Frontier: African-American Poetry for the 21st Century, Knowing Stones: Poems of Exotic Places, Jane's Stories II and rhino. She has been featured on PBS, WBEZ, WVON, and CBS Sunday Morning.
