[edit] Biographical and Professional Information

One of the greatest sports books and sports movies of all time is The Natural, the story of Roy Hobbs, written by Bernard Malamud and portrayed by Robert Redford in the classic film. Eddie Waitkus was the real-life ballplayer who served as the inspiration for Roy Hobbs, and John Theodore has written the first ever biography of the man called "the Fred Astaire of First Basemen", Baseball's Natural: The Story of Eddie Waitkus. One reviewer said, "for anyone who loves baseball, this book is a must-read....it has all the elements of a great novel."
