Florence started her career as the assistant editor for the Northwest Times in Harwood Heights, Illinois. During her time here she also worked for Advertising Age, The American Journal of Sociology and of Education, was an instructor at Kennedy-King College and presented teaching seminars on writing and editing for scholarly publications.
