[edit] Biographical and Professional Information
Carol Anshaw is a respected novelist and a renowned journalist. She attended Michigan State and majored in communications. She then moved to Chicago the very week of the '68 Democratic Convention and took her first job - writing catalog copy in a modern-day sweatshop. Ten months later she was working as associate features editor at Advertising Age and started backing up Roger Ebert at the Sun-Times. She wrote movie reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times for many years and book reviews for the Village Voice's literary supplement, the VLS.
Carol has been so successful in her reviewing that she won the 1990 National Book Critics Circle citation for excellence in reviewing. The award brought her much recognition and reviewing assignments from many publications like: the Tribune and Sun-Times, LA Times, the Washington Post and NY Newsday.
She has also written some books under her married name and young adult books under her maiden name and series names. Her novel Aquamarine was ranked at No. 37 in the list of 100 best gay/lesbian novels by The Advocate. About Face Theater, in Chicago, produced a stage adaptation of her novel Seven Moves.
In addition to her reviewing and writing, Carol has taught at Chicago's Columbia College and at Ragdale. She currently teaches the MFA in Writing Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is also an accomplished painter.
