Andrew Winkel is a lifelong resident of Illinois, and was both born and lives in the town of Clifton. He explains, "I chose to set the events of Raceboy and Super Qwok Adventures in a fictionalized Clifton, using the essential idea of a rural town but creating alternate businesses and places. Some of the action takes place on Main Street, a locale that should be familiar to every resident of rural Illinois. Other stories happen between towns, in fields, or by gravel roads. The heroes do venture outside Clifton when they visit the Field Museum in Chicago, but on the whole, Raceboy and Super Qwok Adventures is a book that readers who grew up or are growing up in the Midwest will connect with."
