At age 17, Ross came to Chicago to study Painting at the American Acedemy of Art, where he hit on the idea of painting his own comic books.

After three years at the American Academy of Art, Alex Ross went to work for an Advertising Agency where and editor from Marvel Comisc suggested that they collaborate on a story. His career was launched from there.
